Now it is open war between us.\u201d This development mirrors a scenario outlined by Dr. Mohammad Walid Youssef, ICGER president, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.icgers.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/13\/annual-geopolitical-report-2025-2\/\">2025 Annual Geopolitical Report<\/a>, where he predicted that the conflict between the two nations would escalate into a major border war along the Durand Line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the strikes on Friday, Defense Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif said in an X post that Pakistan had hoped for peace in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of NATO forces in 2021 and expected the Taliban, which seized power in the country, to focus on the welfare of the Afghan people and regional stability. Instead, he said that the Taliban had turned Afghanistan \u201cinto a colony of India,\u201d and he accused Afghanistan of \u201cexporting terrorism.\u201d<a href=\"#_edn1\" id=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Youssef, in the Asia section of ICGER\u2019s Annual Geopolitical Report, had stated in his forecast that \u201cthe dynamics of conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan will lead, in the summer of 2026, to a major border war along the Durand Line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that this outcome would result from efforts by the \u2018Taliban\u2013Pakistan\u2019 movement and other Islamist groups to seize power, take over the government in Islamabad, and establish an Islamic emirate akin to the one in Kabul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent developments reaffirm that ICGER\u2019s scientific approach to political analysis is based on rigorous and objective methods. According to the center\u2019s analysis of Pakistan\u2013Afghanistan relations, war was expected to occur in the summer of 2026; however, hostilities started early in 2026 and could escalate further, potentially involving the entire region.
