U.S. president Donald Trump disclosed that he is seriously pondering pulling the U.S. out of NATO following the alliance’s refusal to support Washington in the Iran conflict. This statement supports the prediction by Dr. Mohammad Walid Youssef, head of the ICGER, who argued that President Trump might shift U.S. policy towards the approach of pre-World War II leaders, influenced by his admiration for the economic and strategic ideas of former President William McKinley (1897\u20131901).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump described the alliance as a \u201cpaper tiger,\u201d stating:  \u201cOh yes, I would say (it\u2019s) beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin knows that too, by the way.\u201d This is seen as the strongest signal yet that the White House no longer views Europe as a reliable defense partner.[i]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
