A Jihadist Continent: The New Global Threat Taking Over Africa

This study warns of a “jihadist corridor” emerging from Somalia to the Atlantic as JNIM, ISIS affiliates, Boko Haram, and al-Shabaab expand across the Sahel–Sahara. With global powers shifting focus away from counterterrorism, these groups now control vast territory, deploy drones and advanced arms, and edge closer to capitals like Bamako, Niamey, and Ouagadougou. The paper projects consolidation in Mali–Niger–Burkina Faso, coastal spillover to Benin and Togo, and links to Central/East Africa, creating up to 10 million km² of instability. The likely fallout: mass violence, refugee flows, threats to Europe/US, and major risks to foreign investment.
Dr. Youssef calls for an urgent, coordinated strategy before the window to contain the threat closes.
